A Visit to the Bombay Y

Local Roots, Global Reach

The cultural, spiritual and social journey of the Edison Branch Y International Travel Team to build bridges with the staff and volunteers of the Bombay YMCA...

The Edison YMCA staff and volunteers that travelled to India from the YMCA of Metuchen Edison Woodbridge and South Amboy could not help but be impressed by the impact the Bombay YMCA has had on so many boys, men, students, the unemployed, the underemployed, the poor and the marginalized members of society for all of their 125 year history in India.  We are proud and honored to be their partner YMCA and look forward to a long and productive exchange of ideas, programs and potentially staff.   Our respective International Committees officially pledged to work together and to learn from each other at a joint meeting held on November 11, 2011 at the YMCA International House, Mumbai, India.

The Juhu Beach Orphan Center is run by the Bombay YMCA, and is home to nearly 35 boys that have nowhere to live. The YMCA operates 7 facility branches and 10 offsite programs and buildings, primarily in Mumbai where they address social needs including occupational education, housing and counseling.
