REMOTE LEARNING SUPPORT
The
YMCA of MEWSA's REMOTE LEARNING SUPPORT alleviates the stress on families who are now working from home and challenged with providing educational instruction to their children.
The
REMOTE LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAM offers virtual one-on-one support with school assignments for youth in grades K-8. Our qualified child care professionals and staff will use their experience working with school-age youth to help your child complete school assignments through one-hour live virtual tutoring sessions.
Families can choose the days and times that are convenient for them. Parents will provide information about their expectations, child’s personality, and learning style in advance, and be matched with an instructor.
Our instructors will review all subject material ahead of time, so they are fully prepared to help your child succeed in their daily work.

FAQs-Distance Learning
Our instructors all have experience working with youth in YMCA child care or youth enrichment programs. Many of our instructors work at teacher and director-level positions within our YMCA association, with a solid background of leading child care programs and staff. Although a college degree is not required for this program, our current instructors have degrees in education or a related field of study as well as several years of teaching experience.
Yes, all YMCA of MEWSA employees undergo a thorough background screening including criminal history, sex offender and reference checks.
Our staff are required to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training as well as training on policies, procedures and risk management. Each staff member is required by the NJ Department of Children and Families to obtain a minimum of 30 hours of additional training in child development and safety.
Our staff have experience working with school age children and have a variety of educational backgrounds relative to this program, including degrees in education or related areas of study. Every effort will be made to match your child with an instructor that has expertise in your child’s area of interest/need. Certified teachers may be assigned based upon availability.
All Distance Learning virtual sessions will be conducted one-on-one with a YMCA instructor utilizing Zoom. All Kindergarten Readiness sessions will be conducted in a small group setting.
You will need a computer with a camera and an internet connection. Sessions will be conducted through Zoom. You do not need a Zoom account to access Zoom. An access link will be provided prior to your first session. Technology will be tested during a 15-minute live introductory session.
During each 45 minute session, your instructor will work with your child to complete their schoolwork. You will be asked to provide the lessons prior to the live session to allow time for our instructors to prepared. We ask that you are present with your child at the start and end of each live session for a brief greeting and closing. We will also conduct a 15-minute live introductory session to allow for you and your child to get to know the instructor.
We will use the material that is provided by your child’s school. We’ll focus on the lesson that you select. We ask that you provide the material at least one hour in advance of your scheduled session so that our instructors can prepare.
Registration for this program must be done online. Unfortunately we cannot accept registration over the phone or in person.
This service is open to YMCA members and non-members. Members are eligible to receive reduced rates.

The Distance Learning Support Program is available for children in grades K – 8. The Kindergarten Readiness Program is available for children between the ages of 4-6. Both may be limited based on the experience and availability of our instructors.
Sessions are available Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Once you purchase your session online, a YMCA representative will contact you to discuss availability and book your session.

In order to keep the session fee affordable, we’re unable to offer a sibling discount. You can save by purchasing a YMCA membership and by purchasing five or ten sessions at a time.
We ask that communication with your instructor be conducted through email. Your instructor will provide you with their contact information prior to your first session.

We do not consider Distance Learning sessions tutoring. Our instructors will assist your child in completing school assignments. Formalized instruction is not included.
