  • Assistant Swim Team Coach

    Join a dynamic, enthusiastic team of Swim Team Coaches.  If you are an experienced and knowledgeable swim coach with some previous swim instruction experience, a positive and encouraging personality, and a strong ability to work with a variety of swim levels you'll find this to be the perfect career choice for you!   There are opportunities to work with both an age group and senior groups, based on your prior experience. As a member of our coaching staff you will be expected to attend all practice assigned as well as meets that often take place on weekends.

    Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age, current Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/ AED. We will provide Coach’s Safety Training and YMCA Competitive Swim Training, both required for this position.

    Compensation will be based on experience level.

  • Barre Fitness Instructor

    Looking for an instructor to lead a small group training class incorporating Barre fitness with other modes of exercise including Pilates, yoga and strength training.

  • Caregiver for Child Watch

    Caregiver will provide a safe, supervised play environment for children of all ages in our Child Watch (babysitting program), while their parents work out in our YMCA facility. The ideal candidate must be dependable, energetic and passionate about working with children.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Prior experience working with children or previous babysitting experience is a plus.
    • Ability to supervise the room, greet members and interact with a group of children.

  • Lifeguard

    Qualifications:

    • Must have current Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid Certification
    • Prior lifeguard experience
    • Willing to be outdoors for prolonged periods
    • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age

    Responsibilities include:

    • Arrive at designated time and dressed in appropriate aquatic attire
    • Perform safety checks of equipment, including first aid kits, phones, rescue tubes, pool equipment. 
    • Enforce all pool rules in a firm, but tactful manner
    • Work as part of the aquatic guarding team in an effective and efficient fashion to ensure the overall safety of the pool and pool area
    • Scan according to proper procedures and guard from designated areas and guard chairs
    • Interact with pool members and guests in a member friendly manner

  • Security Weekends

    The Metuchen YMCA is looking for a dedicated individual with experience in Security or related field to join our Weekend Building Security staff, who are committed to ensuring the safety of all members, children, visitors and staff. This position is offered on a part-time basis, Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 - 6:00 PM.

    Essential Responsibilities:

  • Swim Team Coordinator

    Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Coordinator will assist with the day-to-day operations and functions of their assigned department.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Work closely with the Head Coach on calendar and meet/practice schedules
    • Process meet entries
    • Lead support to YMCA events and be a department champion to have all staff engaged in events and functions (SK, RMP swim meet, team events, banquet)
    • Ensure department is in compliance with YMCA standards, adhering to YMCA policies, guidelines and best practices
    • Work closely with Director and Head Coach as part of the Fund Raising Team.
    • Perform department functions as assigned by Director or as required for department (examples: update team website, maintain Team Unify records, process team and swimmer registrations).
    • Emulate the four core values of the YMCA to member and staff on a consistent basis.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, as well as relationship building skills.

Full Time Positions
  • Senior Aquatic Director

    Under the leadership and direction of the Vice President of Operations, the Senior Aquatic Director will give leadership to the Association-wide Aquatic Operations including both year-round and seasonal aquatic areas and Swim Teams.  This can include, but is not limited to, Leading and mentoring Aquatic Directors and/or Coordinators at various locations, providing hands-on leadership to a specific location, budgeting, programming, program development, maintaining safety standards, leadership and development of staff, risk management of aquatic environments and maintaining all state and local health and bathing regulations for their assigned branch.

     Essential Functions:

    Give leadership to the Association’s aquatic departments and locations in order to meet the needs of the communities we serve and the association’s strategic plan.

    • Ensure the care, safety and well-being of all members, guests, and staff in the aquatic environment.
    • Plan, organize and give direction and oversight to aquatic staff, aquatic programs and aquatic rentals as assigned with a focus on quality and growth.
    • Ensure all aquatic processes and practices are in alignment with association standards and aquatic best practices.
    • Ensure staff are adequately training in all safety and emergency procedures and certifications are current.
    • Ensure a robust aquatics drill, skills and safety system are in place that is executed, measured and recorded.
    • Support and give leadership to association aquatic leaders with staffing schedules, class scheduling and pool usage to maximize pool and staff time.
    • Ensure aquatic environment is utilized appropriately and within the mission of the YMCA.
    • Prepare and manage budget.
    • Monitoring and purchasing of supplies for aquatic
    • Ensure program and facility compliance with all state and local regulations, including all certifications.
    • Maintain all records according to local, state and YMCA policy.
    • Complete all administrative work in a timely fashion.
    • Give oversight or conduct monthly staff meetings at each location, including in-services and emergency drills to meet the aquatic standards.
    • Interact with members, guests and community in a positive, professional manner.
    • Participate in YMCA and community special events as a representative of the YMCA.

     Requirements:

    • 5 years of Aquatic Leadership, preferably giving leadership to a multi-site operation.
    • BS in physical education, recreation or related field is preferred or equivalent education and work experience in related field,
    • Current lifeguard, CPR, AED, O2, First Aid required.
    • CPO or YMCA POOL certification preferred, must complete within 6 months.

    • Budget development and management experience
    • Previous supervisory experience with the ability to meet deadlines
    • Ability to interact with a diverse population
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as proficient in Microsoft Office software.

    The Business Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and completing monthly invoicing, payments, building and adjusting program and membership registration pages, collection of balances and review of monthly tuition files for program participants in assigned sites or programs, and other business function that continuously move the branch forward.

    Essential Functions:

    • Review each participant’s profile to ensure that they are in compliance with the system structure
    • Identify, review and correct any inconsistencies in payments vs registrations
    • Process all credits and returns, including checks and credit card declines as required
    • Create rate plans and programs in tracking software
    • Run reports for each site as required
    • Process all drafts for each assigned site and coordinate billing information
    • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding payments
    • Collection of tuition for assigned programs
    • Process all third party payment reports and enter in payment management system
    • Communicate financial discrepancies with assigned Directors
    • Balance end of day report and make deposits as assigned

  • Assistant Camp Director

    Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Director will be responsible for the safety and programming of all children during the hours of the summer camp. The Assistant Camp Director will also be responsible for managing around 15 camp counselors and 4 program staff to ensure quality in the program.

    Essential Functions:

    • Work in conjunction with the Camp Director and leadership staff to maintain all state regulations.
    • Provide feedback during employee recruitment.
    • Attend meetings and trainings as required.
    • Review and approve daily schedules submitted by Unit Leaders, Counselors and others, making certain that activities are age appropriate and within the guiding principles of the YMCA Summer Camp philosophy.
    • Work with Camp Director to schedule, supervise, and coach camp staff appropriately.
    • Keep adequate inventory of supplies, assist with ordering supplies needed within camp budget to keep supply inventory up to date.
    • On a daily basis monitor and maintain equipment for safety.
    • Maintain the first aid book and accident reports, forwarding all accident reports according to the process in place to the YMCA Corporate Office.
    • Coordinate trip schedule and make any necessary adjustments to schedule. Be sure that all supporting supplies for trip, including but not limited to permission slips, directions, check payments, supplies for trip, first aid kits, rosters and petty cash are ready for each trip.

    • College Degree in a child related or managerial area or experience and education equivalent.

    The Teen Leadership Camp Counselor will serve as a positive role model and leader.   • Senior Aquatic Director

    Under the leadership and direction of the Vice President of Operations, the Senior Aquatic Director will give leadership to the Association-wide Aquatic Operations including both year-round and seasonal aquatic areas and Swim Teams.  This can include, but is not limited to, Leading and mentoring Aquatic Directors and/or Coordinators at various locations, providing hands-on leadership to a specific location, budgeting, programming, program development, maintaining safety standards, leadership and development of staff, risk management of aquatic environments and maintaining all state and local health and bathing regulations for their assigned branch.

     Essential Functions:

    Give leadership to the Association’s aquatic departments and locations in order to meet the needs of the communities we serve and the association’s strategic plan.

    • Ensure the care, safety and well-being of all members, guests, and staff in the aquatic environment.
    • Plan, organize and give direction and oversight to aquatic staff, aquatic programs and aquatic rentals as assigned with a focus on quality and growth.
    • Ensure all aquatic processes and practices are in alignment with association standards and aquatic best practices.
    • Ensure staff are adequately training in all safety and emergency procedures and certifications are current.
    • Ensure a robust aquatics drill, skills and safety system are in place that is executed, measured and recorded.
    • Support and give leadership to association aquatic leaders with staffing schedules, class scheduling and pool usage to maximize pool and staff time.
