Full Time Positions
  • Bus Driver

    POSITION SUMMARY:     

     

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Program Director, Camp Director and/or Branch Director of Operations the driver is responsible for the safety of all passengers and the vehicle at all times.  The School Bus Driver must display personal characteristics that exemplify the four core values of the YMCA; caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     

    1. Ensure the safety of all passengers in bus.
    2. Arrive on time (approximately 5 minutes prior to pick-up) at scheduled centers.
    3. Confirm delayed openings and school closings with YMCA personnel (or as indicated on local radio station).
    4. Bus is to be used only for transportation of YMCA participants unless authorized by supervisor.
    5. Any ticket, moving violation, or incident(s) that affects your driving status, must be reported to the Human Resource Director and Executive Director immediately.
    6. Be a positive, desirable role model for children and parents.
    7. Knowledge of emergency procedures and the ability to implement them if need be.
    8. Must report all accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor as soon as possible, as well as complete the accident/incident report and submit it.
    9. Ensure that all passengers and driver are wearing seatbelts at all times.
    10. Maintain and submit Vehicle Destination Logs, Gas Logs, and Mileage Logs according to YMCA procedures.
    11. Perform a pre-trip inspection checking bus for safety hazards, etc,. before using a bus.
    12. Ensure your bus has gas and the inside is kept orderly (return all lost and found to appropriate department at end of run).
    13. Smoking, eating, and drinking while driving the bus is prohibited.
    14. Drive with extreme courtesy.The bus represents the Metuchen-Edison YMCA
    15. Prepare and submit Vehicle Maintenance Request forms immediately upon detection of bus defect or possible defect, address any major cleaning issues.
    16. Assist children getting on and off bus.
    17. Drivers must walk to the back of the bus and back to the front at the end of the bus run to ensure all children have safely gotten off of the bus.
    18. Driver must have in their possession operational cell phone (provided by YMCA) and have it turned on. Always pull off the road to operate phone.
    19. Attend mandatory staff meetings and YMCA training sessions.
    20. Adhere to “House Rules” and exemplify the four core character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
    21. Accurately complete time sheets on a daily basis, signing at the end of the week..
    22. Communicate with supervisor any issues, concerns surrounding the transportation of passengers and or the bus.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    CDL S&P Endorsement,

    Able to meet the Redwoods Vehicle Driver Requirements

    Able to communicate effectively

    Must be a minimum of age 21

  • Wellness Director
    POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Operations, the Wellness Director is responsible for the total operation of the Wellness and Fitness areas for all related areas and age groups.
     
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
     
    • Plan, organize and give director to all areas and events assigned to the Wellness and Fitness departments in order to meet the needs of the community and Association.
    • Recruit, hires, trains, schedules and develops staff to fill the needs of the Wellness and Fitness areas.
    • Establish classes, programs, activities within the needs of the Association and community.
    • Develop and manage the budget for all areas of responsibility in conjunction with the Director for Branch.
    • Using current data assess the program and department impact and effectiveness.
    • Responsible for program areas being used ensuring they are safe, maintained and suits the needs of the program
    • Work closely with branch staff team to coordinate facility usage.
    • Administrative functions, including but not limited to:  payroll, hiring packets, incident reports, brochure preparation, department and branch communications.
    • Engage as an active participant and leader in YMCA staff teams as assigned.
    • Lend support to all YMCA events (5K Walk, Halloween event, Healthy Kids Day, LiveSTRONG day) as needed.
    • Maintain an exceptionally clean and safe Wellness center, ensuring the environment is safe and that all OSHA regulations, best practices and internal practices are being met and that equipment is in excellent working order and welcome desk is professional and orderly.
    • Keep current with CPR/AED, First-Aid, personal training and group ex staff certifications.
    • Regularly evaluate all program areas for damaged or broken equipment, Maintain and schedule repair of equipment, in a timely fashion.
    • All other duties as assigned.
    • Conduct a monthly staff meeting, which includes an emergency drill.
    • Complete all administrative functions in a timely, accurate manner; including but not limited to: staff paperwork, accident/incident reports, staff meeting notes, processing of ADP payroll, accurate and up-to-date records of all current CPR/AED, First-Aid, personal training and group-ex staff certifications.
    • Emulate the four core values to members and staff on a daily basis.
    • Other duties as assigned.

  • Camp Counselor

    Job Description   

    Under the leadership and supervision of Camp Leadership, will provide guidance and secure safety for all of the children in the Summer Camp programs. The Camp Counselor will implement programs designed and monitored by Camp Leadership that ensure every child has the ability to reach their fullest potential and incorporate the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

    Qualifications: 

    • Monday-Friday
    • flexible hours between 7 am and7pm
    • Must be 18 years old
    • Prior child care/camp experience preferred
    • Ability to work in outdoor, summer weather
    • CPR/First Aid Certified or able to obtain certification
    • Must be dependable and a positive role model, with availability to work end of June through end of August, as needed.
    • Carry out curriculum plans and daily activities for children

    • Oversee the safety and location of all children in the camp area at all times.
    • Provide a caring, safe, nurturing environment that is welcoming to all children and their family.

    • Support and execute all procedures as directed.

  • Lifeguard

    POSITION SUMMARY:     

    Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director/Assistant Aquatic Director or Pool Manager, the lifeguards will be responsible for the safety of all members during the hours of pool operation by being on deck, actively patrolling the pool area, constantly remaining alert and scanning, enforcing all pool rules, and other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director or Pool Manager.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Ensure safety of members and patrons and prevent injuries by actively guarding and supervising of pools by active scanning and patrolling.
    • Each YMCA staff member is required to participate in an enhanced cleaning program which supervisors will articulate the exact process as well as product used to clean and what PPE will be required to be worn.
    • Ensure the pool is safe and staffing is within YMCA standards when taking responsibility for the pool and when exiting off of duty.
    • Ensure your personal protective (rescue breather, gloves, fanny pack) is all in good working order and accessible per safety standards.
    • Have a complete understanding of, and be familiar with all emergency procedures, buzzers, buttons and YMCA standards, operations and protocols.
    • Ensure security of pool when leaving the pool area – no pool is ever left unguarded for any reason, at any time.Pool and pool deck must be vacated by all when guard must leave pool area.
    • React immediately to signs of individuals in distress.
    • Administer first aid to victims using OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Universal PrecautionsProvide immediate care to sustain life until EMS arrives.
    • Complete all incident and save reports at time of incident, including all pertinent information.Reports must be legible and state the facts as witnessed by the guard.
    • Maintain all aquatic standards and rules.Ensure no distractions or interference with the ability to hear or see signs of distress.
    • Adherence to all bathing code regulations, standards and safety measures.
    • Must keep all certifications current and have the ability to provide documentation of certifications at all times when requested.
    • Wear proper YMCA professional appearance policy attire as well as have all proper safety equipment (whistle, tube, fanny pack, etc) on persons at all time.
    • Participate as part of the Aquatic Team in providing a safe and enjoyable, member friendly environment.
    • Have the ability to perform a pool reading and if assigned to take a reading, ensure all readings are documented and clearly entered into the pool reading log.Any readings outside of the normal range must be reported to the Aquatic Director or designed Certified Pool Operator.
    • Respect coworkers by arriving on time and in accordance with scheduled hours.
    • Communicate all pool rules and policies in a friendly but firm manner.Ultimately the pool is the lifeguard’s responsibility.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • A minimum of 16 years of age.
    • Current lifesavings, First-Aid, CRP/AED and Oxygen certification.
    • Mature and responsible who can react without hesitation in a professional manner.
    • Ability to enforce all pool rules fairly, effectively in a positive manner.
    • Ability to use water testing kit and be part of the team accurately reflecting results.
    • Ability to see and hear individuals and alarms in pool/pool area
    • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

       

    • PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

       

    • Sufficient strength and skill technique to control and rescue struggling adult swimmers, lifting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, concentration, attention and focus to one area for extended periods of time, warm weather outdoor work, average to warm in-door and out-door pool heat and humidity.

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Director, the Maintenance staff member will, perform “hands-on” duties that will support the overall cleanliness, upkeep and safety of the branch or center.  He or she will also assist with maintenance projects deemed appropriate by the Director.

    Under the leadership and supervision of Camp Leadership, will provide guidance and secure safety for all of the children in the Summer Camp programs.     Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Lead Pool Manager will be responsible for the safety of all members during the hours of the pool operation. The Lead Pool Manager will also be responsible for the total operation of the pool and ensure staff are actively guarding and the pool is operating within the set guidelines. Full-time Seasonal position Memorial Day to Labor Day.

    Essential Functions:

    • Perform safety checks of equipment, including first aid kit, phones, rescue tubes, and pool equipment.
    • Enforce all pool rules in a firm, but tactful manner.
    • Ensure safety of members and patrons and prevent injuries by actively guarding and supervising of pools by active scanning and patrolling.
    • Have a complete understanding of, and be familiar with all emergency procedures, buzzers, buttons and YMCA standards, operations and protocols.
    • Monitor and assist in cleanliness of pool and pool deck.
    • Create lifeguard schedules and coordinate lifeguards throughout the entirety of the summer
    • Organize and run weekly lifeguard in-services.
    • Ensure lifeguards and other pool staff are conducting themselves in a professional manner
    • Along with the Program Director, approve payroll and monitor hours of all pool staff.
    • Communicate with the program director and director of operations regarding staff and member behavior.

    Qualifications:

    • Current lifeguard, First-Aid, CRP/AED and Oxygen certification.
    • Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred, but not required.
    • Must be 21 years of age and preferably 2 years of active guarding experience.
    • Mature and responsible who can react without hesitation in a professional manner and assume the point role in the event of emergency.

    Status: Monday-Sunday 35-38 hours per week

    Seasonal lifeguards wanted for a beautiful 25 meter - 6 lane pool, to provide a safe swimming environment for all guests and campers.  Lifeguard Certification Course offered.     • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course offered, must compete course and pass lifeguard test.

  • Financial Development Director

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Financial Development Director provides leadership in financial development to advance the YMCAs mission through annual giving, government and foundation grants, endowment bequests and gifts and capital campaigns. The Director of Financial Development works closely with the CEO in developing an actively engaged fundraising volunteer board of directors and positions the Y as a community convener and collaborator to address critical social issues.

     
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
     
    1. Develops organizational goals and strategic plans for fundraising, balancing long-term direction and short-term requirements in conjunction with the CEO. 
    2. Develops systems and manages resources, including the financial development budget, needed to carry out the fundraising plans. 
    3. Ensures the established fundraising policies and procedures for the association are being met.
    4. Develops processes and is actively involved in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects. 
    5. Maintains database resource file on top community leaders and utilizes them to build relationships with community leaders.
    6. Directs and coordinates association annual campaign, COVID-19 recovery campaign, endowment programs and in the future, a capital campaigns if identified by the Board as a need and priority.
    7. Support the CEO in engaging the board in conversations and decision making to advance the Y's impact the communities we serve. 
    8. Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of financial development.
    9. Prepares and ensures accuracy of the YMCA Annual Report.
    10. Takes on the leadership role in events, identified by the CEO, as major community impact events (i.e.:  Annual Dinner, YMCA Golf Outing).
    11. Tracks all gifts and pledges by source and purpose and provides reports as needed.
    12. Provides training in fundraising.  Educates, motivates and provides feedback to individuals related to best practices in the fundraising process.
    13. Creates and implements effective communication strategies with compelling messages that inspire others to accomplish the mission and cause with maximum impact.
    14. Develops communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support.  
    15. Supports, through financial means as well as from a philanthropic lenses branch and association events by ensuring donors are invited to organized events. 
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Five or more years of professional experience with a background in fundraising in the YMCA or another non-profit required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent preferred.
    • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.
    • CFRE or equivalent preferred
    • Advanced knowledge of major gifts, direct mail, special events, stewardship and fund development best practices.
    • Supervision of workflow and ensuring that employees and volunteer understand their delegated tasks.
    • Advanced written and oral communication skill 
    • Knowledge of the media and its use in gaining exposure for YMCA events and programs.
    • Ability to relate to top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments in the Middlesex community.
    • Ability to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.
    • Preferred knowledge of donor database system, Daxko
    • Experience securing gifts at the $10,000 level and above
