HEROES AND COOL KIDS PROGRAM COMES TO CAMP MUNSEE AT METUCHEN YMCA

HEROES AND COOL KIDS PROGRAM COMES TO CAMP MUNSEE AT METUCHEN YMCA

[July 2018/Metuchen]: The YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy has been notified that through a grant awarded to the Metuchen Municipal Alliance by the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, the Metuchen YMCA’s Camp Munsee will be offering a progressive, six-week program called “Heroes and Cool Kids” which will be offered to Munsee campers in the 7th to 9th grades.  “We are excited to partner with the Metuchen Municipal Alliance to offer this wonderful new peer leadership program”, said Christine Tolley, Senior Director for Camp Munsee.  “It will allow us to provide a forum to build courage, character and perseverance in teens and pre-teens.”

The program is aimed at providing education and awareness to campers and their parents through fun yet impactful learning exercises that focus on setting positive goals for achievement and reinforcing positive lifestyle choices highlighting drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention.  The program will also help develop leadership characteristics that create positive change and the ability to have positive control of their future.

“The YMCA takes the development of our youth very seriously”, noted Rose Cushing, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy, noting that youth development is one of the YMCA’s primary areas of focus.  “A program such as this will help teens build strong character and equip them with the tools to make wise and moral decisions to allow them to successfully navigate through college, career and life.”

The program began on July 10 and runs through August 16, but registration remains ongoing.  The program is held at the YMCA’s Camp Munsee at the Metuchen YMCA, 65 High Street.  Interested participants should contact Christine Tolley at Christine.tolley@ymcaofmewsa.org or 732-548-2044, Ext. 2213 to register for the program.
